Ok so there has been a developing mystery at the Stiltz home over the last month or so. Danny and I have 2 expensive sets of keys for my car-the ones that are like $150 a piece. (We got the dealer to throw in an extra one when we bought the car but he told us it's that much to replace them so to guard them with our life-they are also the ones with the clickers and alarms and all that jazz.) There is a house key on both key rings.
Anyway since I am the main driver, I have the main set of keys and the spare set is in the kitchen with all of our other keys in a kitchen drawer there. We rarely need them-if Danny drives my car without me which is rare, he will use them otherwise they aren't used much. This winter though, we found they came in handy for in the mornings when Garrett and I were getting ready to to school/work.
I would run out in the cold, put the key in the car and turn on the heat to get the car warmed up (yes we have a garage like most folks but no our car won't fit in it-please don't ask me about this-I get tired when I talk about how much "great Stuff" is stored there while my nice car is outside in the cold/snow.)
Ok so back to the story (sorry for my little rant) I use my set of keys to start the car and turn on the heat, then lock the doors and run back inside while the car warms up.I get Garrett and myself ready to go with our jackets and such and grab the spare set of keys to Lock the front door of the house with and then open the car and let us in-this way we don't have to shut the car off to use that key to lock the front door and let all the cold air back in the car. Genius right? Then every night when I got back home from work I would return the key to it's rightful drawer in the kitchen so it would be there when I needed it the next time.
So this was what I did everyday to try and keep us as warm and comfy as possible on those cold windy days this winter-even snowy on a couple days here in Texas this year. Anyways fast forward to the 1st week of spring-sometime earlier last month, (March) we had SNOW!!!!
It was unexpected as the weather had been warmer but anyway there it was so we followed our normal routine with the keys but I had been out of practice for several weeks due to the nicer weather and apparently I forgot to put the keys back in the drawer where they belonged.
A couple days pass and Danny wants to run a quick errand and take my car-I tell him-hang on a sec, I have those spare keys of yours in my purse-at which point I search my whole purse and cannot find them.
Long story short-it has been WW III around the house for the last month. Danny has given me an earful every chance he could about my being responsible for things and losing things and how expensive they are going to be to replace blah blah blah while I continued to tell him-I did not lose them, I never took them out of my purse and then suggest that maybe he took them out to use them and misplaced them somewhere as I know for a fact that the last place I saw them was in my purse. We go round and round and round and then started turning the house upside down-checking under the beds, sinks, kitchen cabinets, closets, clothes pockets, Garrett's room and toy box (he has a play set of real keys Danny gave him and isn't allowed to play in my purse but we checked nonetheless).
Anyway the bottom line is that these keys are M.I.A (missing in action) and nowhere to be found so we continue to argue about it:
Here's Me (Sarah) : Remember Danny dear, the time I couldn't find my blow dryer for a month? and you swore you didn't know where it was and I told you that you must have used it for something because I always keep it in the same place and we argued over it forever and after 2 months you sheepishly admitted to me that "Oop's I forgot I really did use it when I was cleaning out the freezer to make room for more deer meat and I needed to make sure I got it all dried out inside, here it is babe." "Sorry about that."
Here's Danny : well you forget things and lose things too. How about how your always losing things around the house and never remembering everyones birthdays or forgetting to set your alarm and waking up late (I will note here that I do forget where I put things from time to time and that items ocasionally get lost on my watch LOL) but I was 100 percent positive that I didn't remove those keys from my purse.
Well, yesterday dundundundun (drumroll) the mystery was solved and we were both right! He never moved it and I never misplaced it. Turns out (I know you all will laugh at this part) that yesterday I lost my cell phone for awhile. I was searching my purse for it and took everything out of my purse. Turns out there was a tear in the lining of my purse and guess what had fallen into the tear/hole in my purse lining? The missing keys! YAY!!!! So immediately I call Danny so we can celebrate upon which he says "I knew it was you who did something with them!" and I am like hey I told the truth- "The last time I had them they were in my purse, so I guess we were both right". Well, he doesn't see it quite the same that way I do but at least we found them and can both laugh about it a little! Isn't life fun?...
Now if I could only find my cell phone... hahaha (actually it was in the car, I found it later last night:)
Sometimes it's like I Love Lucy at our house (especially when I feel like running a bunch of Spanish words out of my mouth :) and that Danny and I are Fred and Ethel but I am glad life is fun for us and not boring!
On another little note, Garrett had a great Easter. He loved Easter egg hunting although I think he is confused how it works:) Grandpa Billy and Daddy hid all the eggs and then when Garrett came out he stood and waited for them to show him where each of the eggs was hidden, would then pick them up and yell "yay" or "i got it"! and put it in his basket. Then on to the next one. It was funny to watch. Apparently Grandpa Billy is a great Easter egg finder ! LOL :)

Handful o' poo and drag car racing...
Ok so yesterday I was preparing Garrett's lunch, had just put his plate on his little table and sat down when I see him coming at me with a raised pointer finger. He was crying and saying "finner mommy" so I am like "Garrett did you hurt your finger? come here and mommy will kiss it for you"... and he comes over to me and THANK GOD I see that there is a blob of something on his hand. I carefully grab his arm around the elbow to check it out and yes, it is the one thing that I was hoping it was not...poo-poo. Nasty! Yuck! This is new to both of us. Garrett had never pulled poo out of his diaper yet so poor Garrett is crying because he has some mystery funk on his finger and I am pretty much escorting him down the hallway to my room by his elbow (poor kid!) and then laid him on a towel so I can check things out. Without being any more graphic than I already have been, suffice as to say, Mommy had a MESS to clean up and poor Garrett was washed and sanitized from head to bottom (literally)! I was so grossed out and he was giggling by now more than likely from the look of pure horror on my face than anything else.
When Danny gets home, I tell him of the events at which point he begins laughing hysterically.
I can assure you if mommy had been gone and daddy had been the one there for this occasion, that would not have been the case!
So anyway all cleaned up, back we go to eat lunch which he did quite well. He played a few minutes after that and then it was naptime. Off to mommys room again for nap and he layed right down with me. He is pretty good about tv time and there are only a few tv shows that he has much interest in at all. Unfortunately for some reason (probably due to the time change and being overly tired) he wanted to watch tv while he fell asleep (he usually goes to sleep with no tv so I am not sure what the deal was???) and as I said there are only a few shows he will watch and of course none of them were on at naptime yesterday. So he says "cars mommy?" (the only dvd he'll watch) and I am like No cars baby (no dvd player in our room) and so he's like "Mouse?" for mickey mouse and I am like no Garrett mickey mouse isn't on...and then he's like "ammals?" (that's what he calls the Wonder pets on nick, jr. which he LOVES) and I am like "no Garrett they aren't on right now so he starts crying. (Little bear was on which I love but he doesn't watch it) and he was so tired and I knew if I could get something on to keep his interest for a few minutes, he would go right off to sleep so I began channel surfing and I am going down through the channels slowly and he is watching and as I go down through the sports channels , I pass some drag racing and he is like CARS! YAY! and so there we are at naptime watching drag racing. (He was out in about 5 minutes) I would have thought I would have had a few more years before drag racing was on both tv's!!! Am I sure he's adopted? Yes I am but I sometimes have doubts myself as he is so much his fathers son! Anyway I fell asleep with him I mean c'mon, who wouldn't? Its drag racing people! Well, it was either that or I was tired from all the poo shoveling. Ha! Life would be no fun without both of my "boys".

My funny little man...
Ok, the bedtime process has now gotten a little more complicated. It used to be bath, milk, storytime and Garrett would curl up with his blankie and off to sleep he would go...apparently now those are the good ole days. For the last few night he has insisted on not going to bed without all of his "babies" (the 5 stuffed animals he owns), a blankie for them, his blankie, and for whatever reason, 1 tractor,1 book and 1 car (doesn't matter which one but one of each). When all of these things are in the bed next to him he would lay down and go to sleep until last night...
I had all of the items assembled and ready for him (some of you might say he's too spoiled here but I choose to pick my battles and its easier to give him what he wants and get him to bed on time than to say "no" and fight with him for an hour).
Anyway we get all snuggled in and he starts to cry...I'm like what's wrong? he goes "Mommy emmo, emmo mommy" and he is crying his heart out..."I am like elbow baby? did you hurt your elbow? " No mommy emmo and its at this point that I realize that one of his babies "Elmo" is missing. "Oh you want Elmo?" at which point he hops up (crying stops immediately) and gets out of bed and runs to the living room to get Elmo, runs back to the room and climbs in bed and lays down. Great I think, now we're good! Not quite. He starts crying again. "What's wrong Garrett?"
"Yook Mommy amere" (look mommy come here) he says as he again gets out of bed. Interested I follow him-he goes to the refrigerator, smacks it with one hand and says "sammich" and I say no Garrett you cannot have a sandwich, you already ate (before you think I starve my child, for dinner he had meatloaf, bread, 3 helpings of corn and some beans and a half hour before bed a whole tub of yogurt so no way was this child hungry.) at this point he starts to cry.
I am starting to get frustrated but trying to be a good mommy I get down at his level and say "Garrett I am very sorry but it is not time to eat it is bedtime so lets be a good boy and go night-night" at which point he looks at me with a tear on his cheek, his lip quivering, seems to think for a minute and says "momma, ice ceam?" and I am like "Garrett I am sorry baby it's too late for ice cream, its bedtime" and then (this is the kicker) he says "peas?" (for please) and signs it at the same time.
Oh my goodness-it broke my heart but I managed to stay firm insisting that it was bedtime and we could have ice cream another time so he trudged down the hall, climbed into bed and cried himself to sleep and I felt like the worst mommy in the world (even though I do feel I did the right thing but was grateful that he was sleepy and fell asleep quickly.) Sometimes its Ok to give in but I do like to keep him on a schedule during the week and I want him to get a good nights sleep so I wasn't budging on this one (but if it had been the weekend it might have been another story.)
Sometimes this parenting thing is hard when you want to do one thing and you need to do another.( I know some of you are laughing at me right now but its hard to say "no".-heck I don't want my child to be one of those little brats screaming at walmart at the top of their lungs so the parent will give in and give them whatever they want -I always blame the parents when kids act like that. All in All thank the good Lord, Garrett is actually extremely well behaved and we are blessed to have such a great little guy but last night I learned you have to draw the line somewhere) .
For us we can have animals, blankies and toys in the bed but we cannot stay up stalling and asking for things all night. I feel if I gave in last night, he would have tried to do the same thing every night and start coming up with reasons to not go to bed and I certainly didn't want to start that! I know there was no way he was hungry but this is the 1st time he has tried to prolong or stall bedtime. I am sure it wasn't the last time! I can't wait to see what he has in store for me tonight :) I love that little guy so much...being a parent is the best even when it's not so fun.

Wow! I can't believe it is March already. I am officially ready for spring and warmer weather. This Florida girl is not used to snow or 30 degree weather and I am ready for winter to go away. Let's see, Garrett has picked up a new phrase these days and its not enough to just tell it to you, you have to hear the attitude behind it. I think his teacher must say it because he did not pick it up from me, Dannys mom or Danny so that just leaves his teacher.
He also uses it in the correct context which makes it even cuter. For instance he uses it when he is surprised by something like the other day we said "Garrett, look there goes the kitty" and he says "Ohhhhh m'gosh" just like that-the "o" sound is really long and then the rest. It cracks us up. He is talking in sentences and it is amazing how much he knows. This weekend we took him to the Tyler zoo (It was his 1st zoo trip) and he loved it! We were talking to him about seeing the "ammals" for 2 days prior and he loved his 1st zoo trip. They Tyler zoo is small but very nice with great walkways. It took about 2 hours to see everything and it was just perfect because my back lasted that long but was starting to get uncomfortable. Also the animals would come right up to the glass which he loved and they had 2 white tigers which are my favorite.
While we were there, we came upon a family that was standing still at an exhibit where there were whitetail deer and longhorns. We noticed that all 4 of the children were taking pics with their cell phones. Apparently mom and grandma were nearby sitting on a bench. As we got closer, the dad was shaking his head and laughing and told us that of the whole zoo, their kids had spent 30 whole minutes there watching....(drumroll please) ...a squirrell!. We laughed so hard. It was really funny. The squirrell was very tame (as I am sure people feed him all day) and was going right up to the children and playing and putting on a little show for them. It was adorable and they were taking all kinds of pictures of him and of course, Garrett became fascinated as well. The father jokingly said that no way was he gonna pay $8.50 again for his kids to see a squirrell. It was pretty funny! I have always loved the zoo and I was glad to see Garrett having so much fun. It was also beautiful weather for a zoo visit. (Near 60 degrees-not 2 hot or 2 cold but nice).
We had gone to Tyler to see Dannys grandma Marie who turned 82 this weekend and who looks like 60 by the way. She says she uses Oil of Olay and I keep forgetting to pick some up. If I look half as good as her at that age I will be happy. They sang to her at the restaurant and announced her birthday and a guy at another table leaned over and said "You don't look anywhere near your age". I hope someday someone says that to me! She is a sweetheart and Garrett went right to her and hugged and kissed her even though he had not seen her in awhile and is usually shy. It was sweet.
Dannys job is going great. They had an electrical fire the other night and so he had a little excitement but it was caught early and noone was hurt so that was good.
My insurance denied my surgery again yesterday so please please please keep me in your prayers. I do need it quite badly according to my surgeon and them putting it off is only going to make things worse. My doctor will be talking to their doctor tomorrow so please pray something can get accomplished at that meeting. I am trying to stay positive but the whole situation is discouraging and sometimes when I am hurting really bad I feel like I don't know how much more I can take. I know God is in control and patience is a virtue but I do covet your prayers. I want to be pain free and run around and play with my little boy without pain. I hope everyone is well and ready to enjoy summer. I can't wait for the blue bonnets to bloom here in Texas, they are so beautiful. Take care everyone. Love you all!

"Oh Where,Oh where can he be?"
Ok, so last night was a pretty boring night at the Stiltz home...until about 8:00pm that is.
Danny was at work, Linda was reading in her room and Garrett and I were snuggled up in my bed playing cars and reading books. He had already had his bath, pj's were on & we were winding down and both getting sleepy. I had locked my bedroom door earlier in the evening to keep him confined to my room as my back was hurting and I didn't want to chase him all around the house.
As usual when he gets really sleepy and realizes it, he decides to try and get up and play and he slides off of the bed on Danny's side. Rather than get him and put him back in bed immediately, I decided to take advantage of the fact that he was up to run to the restroom (which is located in my room). I was gone maybe 2 minutes MAX. When I got back to the room, I see no Garrett. Sometimes he finds it fun to hide in a little cubby under the computer desk and behind the office chair in our room. Assuming this was the case, I say "where is Garrett?" and wait for a little giggle...Nothing. I pull the chair out to get him back in bed and find...nothing.
Now I am confused-did he come in the bathroom and I didn't see him? Is he in the master closet playing? so I start searching-not really worried because I know he's in that room. Checked the bathroom, shower, and closet...nothing...Looked behind the recliner in my room...nothing.Looked under my side of the bed...nothing (well except some mess that I now know I need to get under there and clean up), then I go over to Dannys side and look under the bed...nothing except dannys gun case which is the length of the bed.
Now I am perplexed...there are no other places to look and I start to feel a little anxious. I check the door to my room, still locked, I rip all the blankets from the bed in case he was under them...nothing. Now I decide to check with Linda to make sure he didn't somehow get out of the room and go see her...Nope and now we are both puzzled, I recheck every place I just looked. I am starting to worry a little. Where could he possibly be? Now we start hollering his name "Garrett, come see Mommy right now", Garrett, wanna cookie? Garrett where are you?, Garrett come see Gran" no answer but I do hear a little noise that sounds like it's from under the bed.
Gran gets down on Dannys side of the bed with a flashlight and pulls out Dannys big long gun case and there is Garrett. "He's not moving" she says and I ask her to get up so I can get to him, I get the flashlight and grab his little arm and leg which I can hardly reach and pull him a little bit and can see now that he is absolutely fast asleep. Thank you Lord! I pull him out from under the bed and I got the top half of his body out and he woke up kind of groggy and then mad. Apparently he was quite tired and didn't appreciate the fact that he was now being awakened! or the fact that he had just about given mommy and then gran a heart attack.
He had to crawl under the bed, over and behind the gun case and then fall asleep all in the time it took me to use the restroom. Unbelievable! You can bet we will be making sure that he is unable to crawl under the bed again. It took half an hour to get him back to sleep. I called Danny to tell him of the evenings events and he laughs and says "Well,Margaret, apparently he was tired." I am so lucky to have such an understanding husband. LOL.

LOL.

Holidays & Household happenings:
Ok so it's been a year or more since I figured out how to make a blog and I finally decided to get this thing going. I apologize this first entry is sooo long but I know EVERYONE has been just dying to know how the heck we are :) I hope to let everyone know what's been going on in our lives in a humerous and non-boring way. (Hopefully for you, I am successful at that). So, whats new at the Stiltz home?
Well, we had a GREAT Christmas. Unfortunately this means that Garrett's room looks like an amusement park and you usually can't get in and out of his room without seriously injuring your foot on something.
Ok so that's not entirely true because I do keep things pretty organized in there, but I guess you can get the picture that he got ALOT of stuff. In his defense his birthday is 4 days before Christmas so he had a birthday party and Christmas all in the same week! Some people feel sorry for kids who have a birthday so close to Christmas because they get ripped off and only get half the presents. I can assure you all that did not happen with Garrett and he will not be running out of things to do anytime soon! Apparently every adult in his life made a special point to make sure he had 2 very special days.
Danny and I usually just tell each other what we want the other one to get us for Christmas. It's way less complicated and that way I don't end up with an adult potty seat "but honey, it would be great for you to use at the deer lease", and he doesn't end up with "some ugly shirt with long sleeves. When in 6 years have you ever seen me wear a shirt with long sleeves?". This way we both get something that we want. At least it has worked well the last few years for us. This year I gave him money so he could get whatever it was that he decided he wanted. He bought a very nice meat smoker...Awesome right? Well, it was until I got the gift I asked for...I wanted a video camera so we could videotape all of our sons cute little moments. As a strong "hint" to show him that was what I was really wanting, I mentioned that if I got one, I might let him borrow it to take to the deer lease and make movies.
YES, I can hear you already! It was a mistake. The 1st thing on "my" new camera is a hunting video with clips of the guys at the deer lease without their shirts on (not pretty) bragging about how many Dr. Peppers they were able to drink that day. (thank God for small miracles, they were not discussing the crapper!) It's a good thing that I love that man! Although we were able to get video of Garrett at some point (Thanks Danny for that) , I still don't even know where my camera is "hiding" or where to even turn the thing on if I find it!
When I complained about this, he said he is not really hiding it from me and that if I looked for it hard enough, I could probably find it but I should probably read up on how to operate the thing anyway and then (I swear this is the truth) gave me the instruction manual that came with the thing! Maybe he will surprise me with it at Valentines. What a sweetheart!
I am glad we both have a good sense of humor, it really does makes life much less boring.
Anyway so that was our Christmas and we really did have a great one. Garrett was so overwhelmed on christmas morning when he saw everything that he got shy and turned around and grabbed onto me. It didn't take very long for him to get excited though when he started to see all the fun things waiting for him. His big gift was a power wheels which he loved especially when he crashed it into the sofa and found out it actually drove! We were able to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas with our fantastic Texas family. Great times, great food and tons of fun.
I have to tell you that when 12-31-09 came around, I did not spend the evening watching the ball drop, I was not at some awesome New Years party, I was not up late watching movies or at a fireworks show, I was sound asleep in bed with my little guy snoring lightly in my ear...if you think that is bad, when I woke up later that night and went to put Garrett in his bed, Danny had fallen asleep on the couch. Watch out for the Stiltzes! They are a rowdy crowd:) but seriously I think I liked it so much, I will plan on doing the same thing thing next year!
Danny had an off year at the deer lease and for the 1st time in 4 years he didn't shoot anything worthy of hanging on the wall. (Don't tell him I said this but I am kind of glad as that means we can keep the wall at least one more year. It is in danger of taking a serious fall if we put another dead animal up there) but at least he enjoyed his time "On God's front porch" which is what they have named their resort in the woods.
When I say resort, I feel the need to describe the deer camp to you so you can decide for yourself. At last count, there were 3 possibly 4 satellite televisions-positioned so everyone can see one from their beds, handmade bunkbeds with brand new mattresses, indoor air conditioning and heaters, hot water for showers, indoor lighting, a front porch with a ceiling fan and quite possibly, (although I have never seen it), mints on their pillows. I tell you its just like survivor out there...Oh,wait...
Garrett is growing like a weed. At his 2 year doctors appointment, he weighed 31 pounds and was over 3 feet tall. He says well over 200 words and is repeating everything we say! He is so smart. He loves coloring, playing cars, taking baths, and playing on the playground. He likes Elmo and loves anything with trains. We are working on getting him to say "ma'am" and "sir" but he sometimes gets them mixed up. He knows all of his manner words: "please, thank you, excuse me" and we are teaching him to apologize when he is "not nice". He is sooo cute. Lately he has been lining up his teddy bears on the floor and putting a blanket over them and patting them (which is how they put the kids down for naps at his little preschool.) It is really sweet.
Apparently after talking with his teacher, Garrett is like perfectly behaved at his school. He has been there almost a year now and has never had a time out. I asked the teacher if he ever was in time out after one weekend when I thought I would try it at home. He was being naughty and I told him so and asked him "Do you wanna go sit in your chair in time out?" at which point he ran to his little chair, pulled it over in front of the fireplace, sat down, put his hands up to his eyes and began fake crying, looking through his fingers to see if I was impressed. At this point it ocurred to me that he may have never been in time out at school and was curious to have a turn and figured he was supposed to cry or something. It totally cracked me up. His teacher confirmed that he had not ever been put in time out. Silly boy. He is such fun. I really don't know what Danny and I did for fun before he came along. He is such a blessing!
As for me, I still need back surgery but I am hanging in there waiting on my doctor to get my insurance to pay for the surgery I need to fix it. Does that sound completely backwards to you?
Anyways, trying to learn patience and trusting God to take care of me. I would appreciate your prayers. When I am having a bad day I just listen to Garrett laugh and it reminds me how God answers prayers all the time and can give you the greatest blessings when you least expect them. So we are all doing well. I hope good health and happiness finds everyone who may be reading this and I promise future blogs won't be sooo long. I want to make them funny and entertaining and see how many followers I can get. Take care everyone!
